This was an excellent way to spend an evening. Eating, drinking and experiencing the authentic passion of longtime ( and new) stall holders. Our guide Cheryl was charismatic and extremely knowledgeable. She brought the history of the market and its future to life. We felt a personal attachment to the place and the people we met during the course of the evening. The food and drink were enhanced with an understanding of exactly where they had come from and who was making or serving them. A real standout were the indigenous foods and ingredients we experienced. First time for the wild boar ham and (separately) the camel sausage rolls! Tremendous - and sustainable. Likewise with the Kangaroo Island ‘O’ gin served with capsicum and basil. Patisseries, cheeses and coffee also featured. We were so full the desserts came back with us for breakfast! A thoroughly satisfying evening tour.
Our guide Cheryl did an amazing job telling us the history of the central market (including historical pics) and talked about the various stall holders and their produce as she walked us through the central market. Small group of 8 made it manageable. Food and drinks were awesome and good diverse choice of ethnicity. Made us aware of how lucky we are to have access to so much variety. Thank you for a great night This tour is highly recommended,
What a fantastic market and a real treat for your senses! Cheryl gave us a great tour with very interesting and delicious local food and beverages. Her knowledge of the Adelainde area, history and food scene was extensive and we had a great afternoon of conversation and culinary delights. We enjoyed meeting and talking to some of the vendors and learning about their products and efforts toward zero waste and sustainability. We highly recommend taking this tour - it was one of the highlights of our two weeks in AU.
We're locals who did this tour and we loved it! There was a bit of history and some insight into the stalls that you would never discover on your own. We now have a much better understanding of the market, where to find things and how it operates. We were also full up to the brim of delicious food from the stall holders and cafes in the market, so much so we had to take our cake home for the next day! Highly recommended for visitors and locals alike!
